SHINE Academies is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and community, and our staff share this commitment. We have a strong safeguarding culture across our family of schools and expect staff, governors, visitors and volunteers to be vigilant in raising concerns.

We have a highly skilled team that lead safeguarding across our schools who offer robust contact and high support. We have a “Think Family” approach in the context of safeguarding children and adults as this is at the heart of our practice. This approach supports us to look beyond the individual that we are supporting and enables us to work collaboratively with our external partners forming a team around the child and family. This means we will consider the wider family around the child to understand if there are any factors to consider within our safeguarding approach.

Our safeguarding model highlights bespoke working. All schools have a Family Service offer and a team that support on the site of our schools that aims to deliver early intervention to prevent escalation. We work in partnership with our connecting Local Authorities to raise concerns that warrant external intervention and work together to deliver strength-based working for our children and families.

There are 5 DSL’s and 6 DDSL’s across our trust including 20 Safeguarding Officers that support and advocate safeguarding response. The team also deliver safeguarding training. SHINE Academies has also successfully appointed a safeguarding link trustee as part of our safeguarding response.
