Parent or Family Member in Prison
SHINE Academies understands that having a parent or family member in prison can be a deeply challenging experience for a child. It can bring feelings of confusion, sadness, anger, and even isolation. Our mission is to ensure that these children are not forgotten and that they receive the care, support, and understanding they deserve.
Our family of schools are committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental space for children to express their feelings, access resources, and build resilience during this difficult time. With the right support, children can navigate this experience with hope, strength, and a sense of community. Together, we can make sure that every child feels heard, valued, and supported, no matter what their family situation may be.
We have 4 champions across our schools that offer a listening ear, support, advice and work closely with the prison to keep the family engaged as much as possible. Wishes and feelings are considered throughout the journey of support. Where possible, the champions will complete referrals for the child and family with the aim to access specialist support where needed.
